Film 'Il mio Rembrandt' explores obsessive passion for the Dutch master

The documentary 'Il mio Rembrandt' by Dutch director Oeke Hoogendijk will be released in Italian cinemas on June 6, 7, and 8, 2022, distributed by Nexo Digital. The film weaves together stories of collectors and dealers obsessed with Rembrandt, including Dutch collectors Eijk and Rose-Marie De Mol van Otterloo, American Thomas Kaplan, Scottish Duke of Buccleuch, and banker Eric de Rothschild, whose sale of two Rembrandt paintings sparked a diplomatic battle between the Rijksmuseum and the Louvre. It also follows aristocratic art dealer Jan Six as he searches for two newly discovered Rembrandt paintings. Hoogendijk describes the film as a Shakespearian drama, with the protagonists' shared 'Rembrandt fever' as the driving force. The director explains Rembrandt's enduring appeal lies in his ability to reveal the true nature of his subjects, creating an honest mirror for viewers. Taco Dibbits is quoted calling Rembrandt 'an homage to humanity.'
