Filippo Sorcinelli's Multisensory Retrospective in Santarcangelo

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Museo Storico Archeologico di Santarcangelo di Romagna hosts 'Accordi e Fughe', a major solo exhibition dedicated to Filippo Sorcinelli. The show, open until March 27, 2022, marks the 20th anniversary of his Laboratorio Atelier di Vesti Sacre (LAVS). It presents a wide range of his works: canvases of all sizes, his renowned sacred vestments—including those made for popes Benedict XVI and Francis—photographs, sculptures, videos, and installations, all immersed in music and scents from his 'olfactory collections'. Sorcinelli's artistic journey began in Mondolfo, near Pesaro, where he learned tailoring and embroidery from his sister and aunt, studied art, and graduated from the Conservatory as an organist. He founded LAVS with a friend about to take holy orders. Every detail is meticulously crafted; vestments are even perfumed before shipping, leading him to launch his own art perfume brand in 2013. Despite his eclecticism, his works consistently draw inspiration from the sacred, communicated through an essential yet emotional language, with a common denominator in 'synesthesia'—the blending of multiple senses.
