Filippo La Vaccara's 'Ipermetafisica' Opens in Palazzolo Acreide, Sicily
The exhibition 'Ipermetafisica' by Filippo La Vaccara (born 1972 in Catania) is now on view at San Sebastiano Contemporary – Casa Bramante in Palazzolo Acreide, Sicily. The space, dedicated to contemporary art, was inaugurated in January 2020 by artist Davide Bramante. Curated by Mercedes Auteri and Aldo Premoli, the show features around twenty new works that explore a concept the artist calls 'Ipermetafisica'—a term derived from Greek meaning 'beyond physics.' The works pay homage to the 20th-century Metaphysical painting movement and its key figures Giorgio de Chirico and Carlo Carrà. La Vaccara's paintings depict empty landscapes, geometric buildings, and essential natures, creating a suspended, mysterious atmosphere that invites viewers into a solitary, intimate journey. The curators describe the experience as a 'disorientation' that makes one feel of no place and therefore of all places. The exhibition revives the magic of Metaphysical art a century later through contemporary style and language.
