Filippo La Vaccara and Danilo Torre at Spazio AmMare, Syracuse
The exhibition 'Visioni periferiche' (Peripheral Visions) at Spazio AmMare, Syracuse, explores the relationship between center and periphery in contemporary art through works by Filippo La Vaccara and Danilo Torre. La Vaccara presents spray and acrylic on paper, while Torre shows a video capturing the connection between Milan (where both artists reside) and the peripheries of Sicily, India, and Africa. The show includes small sculptures and paintings depicting the Sicilian sea visible 200 meters from the venue on Ortigia. Curator Mercedes Auteri, also from Catania and now based in Milan, reflects on historical center-periphery dynamics from Periclean Athens to contemporary New York, Berlin, and London. The exhibition benefits from support by the Pollock Foundation, which helped publish La Vaccara's twenty-year work in a book by Allemandi.
