Filippo Berta's Light Projections on Kunsthalle Osnabrück and Felix Nussbaum House
Italian artist Filippo Berta (born 1977, Treviglio) presents a site-specific video projection on two unconventional venues in Osnabrück, Germany: the exterior facade of Kunsthalle Osnabrück, directed by Julia Draganovic, and the house of painter Felix Nussbaum, a German Jewish artist who died in 1944 as a Nazi victim. The work is part of the Light Moments video art project, curated by Valérie Schwindt-Kleveman, running until January 7. Now in its ninth year, the project takes place in the old town during the Christmas season. Berta's video, titled "Sulla Retta Via," was previously exhibited at the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Lissone in a show curated by Alberto Zanchetta last spring. The footage shows men and women walking in a single file on a beach, attempting to follow the movements of sea foam on the sand. The project aims to create a counterpoint between the experience of art and the consumerist frenzy of the pre-Christmas period, reflecting on conventional Advent and Christmas rituals. The exhibition also features American artist Jan Tichy.
