FILA Museum Foundation Preserves 25,000+ Objects of Sportswear History

Founded in 2010, the FILA Museum Foundation in Biella, Italy, safeguards over 25,000 objects including clothing, footwear, accessories, and digital files that trace the evolution of sportswear and applied technologies. Curator Annalisa Zanni explains that after FILA's sale to an American fund and relocation to Milan, the foundation rescued materials from containers destined for disposal, preventing the loss of invaluable brand heritage. The collection documents collaborations with legendary athletes like Bjorn Borg, Reinhold Messner, Ingemar Stenmark, Tom Watson, and Monica Seles, whose feedback helped refine product design. Partnerships with fashion houses such as Jason Wu, Anna Sui, Gosha Rubchinskiy, and Fendi explored the intersection of luxury and sportiness, strengthening FILA's global positioning. The foundation participates in the Museimpresa project to share industrial heritage and best practices with other museums. Educational initiatives include international traveling exhibitions and local school programs aimed at inspiring young generations about design, innovation, and Made in Italy entrepreneurship.
