Fighting With My Family film adaptation into stage musical announced for 2027

The 2019 biographical film Fighting With My Family, starring Florence Pugh and Dwayne Johnson, will be adapted into a stage musical targeting 2027 performances. Tilted Musicals, led by Miranda Cooper and Sam Hodges, is producing the adaptation with Jon Brittain writing the script and Cooper collaborating with Nick Coler on the soundtrack. The film chronicles the true story of British professional wrestler Saraya Knight, known as Paige, from her Norwich upbringing to joining WWE in the United States. Dwayne Johnson, who played himself in the film and co-produced it through his production company, expressed enthusiasm for the stage version, calling it a natural progression. Director Stephen Merchant, who helmed the original film, supported the adaptation, sharing unused materials and describing his cinematic approach as inherently musical. The Knight family, including parents Patrick ("Rowdy" Ricky Knight) and Julia (Sweet Saraya), are professional wrestlers featured in the source material—a 2012 Channel 4 documentary. Miranda Cooper emphasized the musical's broad appeal beyond wrestling fans, drawing on British musical influences like Britpop, Chemical Brothers, and drum and bass to reflect the family's eclectic personalities. The production will be workshopped later this year, aiming to build a new audience independent of the film's fanbase, coinciding with increased wrestling accessibility in the UK via Netflix's WWE rights acquisition.
