Fifth Moscow International Biennale for Young Art Spans Three Venues
The fifth edition of the Moscow International Biennale for Young Art explores apocalyptic scenarios, utopian visions, and theoretical uncertainties. 114 artists from Spain, Uruguay, Brazil, Italy, Austria, Indonesia, and Ukraine present site-specific projects across three venues: Trekhgornaya Manufaktura, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, and the National Centre for Contemporary Arts. The biennale is structured around three curatorial axes: "Deep Inside" by Nadim Samman, "Hyperconnected" by João Laia, and "Time of Reasonable Doubts" by Valeria Mancinelli and Silvia Franceschini. Samman's exhibition delves into contemporary landscapes from surface to interiority, examining societal norms and expressive codes. Laia's show at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art investigates art as a litmus test for rapid change driven by hyperconnectivity. Franceschini and Mancinelli's path centers on logos and doubt, scrutinizing uncertainty and opacity in present governance. Notable participants include Ozan Atalan, Stacy Belevicheva, Matilde Benmayor, Julius von Bismarck, Vladislav Brut / Alisa Beketova, Addie Wagenknecht, Martin Volman, Iuliana Golub, Veronika Geiger, Beny Wagner, Katharina Gruzei, Marguerite Humeau, and Graham Kelly. Only four Italian artists were selected: Lupo Borgonuovo, Pamela Breda, Karin Ferrari, and Christian Fogarolli.
