cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

The Tuscan town of Fiesole, home to nearly 14,000 residents and located 8 km from Florence, has put forth its bid for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2028, under the theme 'Dialoghi tra terra e cielo' (Dialogues Between Earth and Sky). Mayor Cristina Scaletti unveiled the proposal, which was crafted over a year through collaboration with local citizens, foundations, and institutions, including universities and the Tuscany Region. Notable initiatives include the renovation of the Archaeological Museum, the establishment of a Casa di Comunità in Camerata, the construction of a new school hub by 2028, and the activation of 56 new spaces. Additionally, the 'Fiesole che risuona' project seeks to introduce music to underserved communities. Fiesole is also part of a network named 'Italia 2028' with seven other candidate cities. Finalist cities will be announced soon, with the ultimate selection set for March 2026.
