Field Operations Opens Arts Landing in Pittsburgh's Cultural District

A new public space designed by Field Operations has opened in downtown Pittsburgh, built atop a former parking lot. The $31 million project, called the most substantial investment in Pittsburgh's Cultural District in 25 years, features a 1-acre great lawn with views of the Three Sisters Bridges, a bandshell with a tensile roof, a garden walk, outdoor play room, and a 30,000-square-foot flex space with pickleball courts. Seven public art installations are interspersed throughout the park, curated by Anastasia James of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Artists include vanessa german (with her piece 'Lifted' featuring colorful benches with raised hands), Lenka Clayton and Phillip Andrew Lewis (bird playscapes), John Peña (a cloud-shaped time and weather sculpture), Darian Johnson (animal sculptures), Thaddeus Mosley (nature-inspired wood creations), Mikael Owunna and Marques Redd, Sharmistha Ray, and Shikeith. All artworks will remain for at least one year, with some staying multiple years and new works rotating in over time.
