Fiat Historical Center Reopens in Turin as New Exhibition Hub
The Fiat Historical Center in Turin reopens to the public on December 12, 2024, following a closure during the pandemic. Stellantis signed an agreement with the MAUTO – Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile, which will manage the relaunch and exhibition program. Founded on July 11, 1899, Fiat opened its first plant in Corso Dante in 1900, then moved to the Liberty-style building in Via Chiabrera 20 in 1907. The center houses a vast collection of memorabilia, models, posters, and significant cars, including the 3 ½ HP (Fiat's first car), the 1923 Eldridge Mefistofele, the first tractor Fiat 702 from 1919, the 18BL truck used in WWI, the Littorina railcar from the 1930s, and the G91 fighter jet designed by Giuseppe Gabrielli for NATO. The corporate archive contains documents, 400,000 technical drawings, 5,000 volumes, 6 million images, 200 hours of historical films, and the archive of designer Dante Giacosa (creator of the Topolino, 600, and 500). A temporary exhibition, "Memoria e conflitti," a spin-off of "125 volte FIAT. La modernità attraverso l'immaginario Fiat," runs until May 4, 2025. MAUTO director Lorenza Bravetta stated the center holds a precious collection of vehicles, aircraft, engines, appliances, artworks, and 10,000 linear meters of archives spanning 125 years of Italian history.
