Fiat Grande Panda revives 1980s hatchback spirit with retro design and modern platform

other · 2026-05-11

Fiat has launched the Grande Panda, a compact city car that channels the original 1980s Giugiaro-designed Panda. Revealed in 2024 and first driven in early 2025, it debuted on the rooftop track at Lingotto. The car is built on Stellantis' Smart Car Platform, shared with Citroën C3 Aircross and Vauxhall/Opel Frontera, and closely related to the e-CMP platform used by Alfa Romeo Junior, Jeep Avenger, and others. Available in EV and hybrid versions, the BEV has a 44kWh battery and a projected 199-mile range. The Grande Panda features boxy proportions, angular lights, and playful Italian-themed detailing with bold colors like Limone yellow, Lago blue, and Passione red. Interior highlights include physical controls, bamboo-fibre glovebox trim, and Memphis-inspired pop colors. Three trim levels are offered: Pop, Icon, and La Prima. A manual petrol variant is forthcoming. UK pricing starts at £18,995 for the hybrid and £20,995 for the electric. Fiat aims to compete with Renault's revitalized 4, 5, and Twingo models, leveraging its position as Stellantis' biggest seller.
