Feudi di San Gregorio Winery Transforms into Art Gallery with Site-Specific Works
Since 2014, Feudi di San Gregorio winery in Sorbo Serpico, Avellino, has hosted artist residencies that produce site-specific works, later turned into limited-edition wine labels, with proceeds supporting the Fondazione di Comunità San Gennaro. The project began with Mimmo Jodice, who photographed the ancient vineyards; his black-and-white series is now displayed in the winery lobby. Jodice, honorary president of the foundation, was convinced by Antonio Capaldo, President of Feudi di San Gregorio since 2009, after a long correspondence. Subsequent artists include Vedovamazzei (2016, painting), Marinella Senatore (2018, watercolors), and Pietro Ruffo (2022, ceramic amphora and drawings). Ruffo's amphora, fired at 500°C for a week at Manetti Gusmano in Impruneta, depicts the winery's community and is placed at the entrance. He also designed the label for 1,998 bottles of DUBL+ sparkling wine, benefiting the foundation. The winery, redesigned in 2004 by architect Hikaru Mori and designers Massimo and Lella Vignelli, spans over 300 hectares and includes restaurant Marennà and guest rooms. In 2023, the Californian duo Fallen Fruit will paint the exterior of a building being converted into guest quarters, using spray paint for the first time. Feudi di San Gregorio obtained B Corp and Società Benefit certifications between 2021 and 2022.
