Festival dei Sensi Returns to Puglia's Itria Valley with Body-Themed Edition

The eighth edition of the Festival dei Sensi, a wide-ranging cultural event, will take place from August 22 to 24, 2017, in the Itria Valley towns of Martina Franca (TA), Cisternino (BR), and Locorotondo (BA), Puglia. This year's theme is the human body, explored through conferences, debates, film screenings, workshops, and photography exhibitions. A new venue, the recently restored Stazione ippica di Martina Franca, will reopen to the public during the festival, hosting a photography exhibition by Lisetta Carmi (Genoa, 1924) featuring portraits of yogi Babaji and her journey to founding the Ashram of Cisternino. Other exhibitions include Stefano Graziani's "Il corpo ruota di fronte all'osservatore" and Anthon Beeke's "Body Type." Notable guests include architect and designer Riccardo Blumer on August 22 with a reflection on sitting, anthropologist Francesco Remotti on August 24 discussing body symbolism, choreographer Virgilio Sieni on the geometry and mysticism of the body, and critic Achille Bonito Oliva with a talk titled "Vivo, al massimo muoio." The festival previously debuted successfully in May at the Parco dei Gessi Bolognesi.
