Festival Aperto 2021 in Reggio Emilia: 30 performances and a hopeful message
The 2021 edition of Festival Aperto in Reggio Emilia features 30 performances, 43 total replays, 11 productions and co-productions, and 8 absolute or Italian premieres. The festival opens on September 18 with 'The end of the world', an immersive multimedia performance about environmental unsustainability created by the Turin collective SPIME.IM with Ukrainian pianist Lubomyr Melnyk and Canadian cellist Julia Kent. Organized by Fondazione I Teatri with Reggio Parma Festival, the multidisciplinary program includes site-specific project 'La Visita' by Gabriela Carrizo (Peeping Tom) at Collezione Maramotti (November 4-6); 'Larsen C' by Greek choreographer Christos Papadopoulos (November 21); 'Marée Noire' by Cie La Burrasca (October 2-3); a concert by pianists Katia and Mariella Labèque (October 23) within a Stravinsky section also featuring Solisti della Mahler Chamber Orchestra (October 20); preview of Massimo Zamboni's new album 'La mia patria attuale' (November 19); and works by young artists Filippo Andreatta/Oht, Icarus vs. Muzak, Annamaria Ajmone, and Marco D'Agostin. Artistic director Paolo Cantù evokes Ernst Bloch's 'principle of hope' as a guiding theme.
