Ferzan Ozpetek's 'Venetika' at MAXXI with Kasia Smutniak

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Ferzan Ozpetek's installation 'Venetika' is on view at the Museo MAXXI in Rome until April 30. The work presents Venice personified as actress Kasia Smutniak, who is filmed holding her breath among projections of famous Venetian paintings. The video is mirrored on a water basin while the scent of the lagoon fills the air, accompanied by music by Sezen Aksu. The installation is housed in a red cube of wood and mirrors in the museum's piazza. Originally created for the 58th Venice Biennale, the project is curated by Giovanna Zabotti, produced by Faros Film and Fondaco, with Bulgari as main partner.
