Ferrovie dello Stato's #RailwayHeart social project turns passenger photos into exhibition

digital · 2026-04-27

Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) launched #RailwayHeart, a social media project curated by its Direzione Centrale Comunicazione Esterna, in November 2018. The initiative collects travel photos shared by passengers on FS's social networks using the hashtag. Over 20,000 images have been posted on Instagram alone. Enrico Procentese of FS's Digital Communication team explained that the project aims to gather travel experiences under one hashtag. Monthly selections are published on FS social channels and the onboard magazine La Freccia. The project is divided into four sections: People (travelers), At Work (railway staff), Luoghi (stations), and In Viaggio (landscapes from the window). For the 70th anniversary of Rome's Stazione Termini, a selection of #RailwayHeart images is featured in a diffused exhibition within the station. FS also produced a downloadable calendar with twelve selected photos submitted via email or shared on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
