Ferrara's Palazzo dei Diamanti Explores Art and Psyche from Symbolism to Futurism

exhibition · 2026-05-05

From March 3, 2018, Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara hosts "Stati d'animo. Arte e psiche tra Previati e Boccioni," an exhibition tracing how late 19th- and early 20th-century artists visualized emotional states. The show juxtaposes Symbolist and Divisionist masters—Giovanni Segantini, Gaetano Previati, Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, Angelo Morbelli, Medardo Rosso—with Futurist avant-gardists Giacomo Balla, Carlo Carrà, and Umberto Boccioni, who transformed the earlier legacy into a dynamic, immersive language. Studio Ravalli designed a suspended, immaterial setting in darkness, where works interact with sounds and projections evoking the fin-de-siècle tension between positivism and irrationalism.
