Ferran Barenblit appointed director of MACBA following censorship controversy
Ferran Barenblit has been named the new director of Barcelona's Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA). His appointment follows the March resignation of former director Bartomeu Marí, who stepped down amid controversy over a censored installation by Ines Doujak. That work, part of the exhibition The Beast and the Sovereign, depicted a former Spanish king engaged in a sexual act with a dog and was on view until 30 August. Barenblit previously led the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M) in Móstoles near Madrid starting in 2008. Prior to that, from 2002 to 2008, he directed Barcelona's Centre d’Art Santa Mònica. The Art Newspaper reported the appointment.
