Fermin Rocker's final exhibition at Chambers Gallery precedes his death at 96
Fermin Rocker, aged 96, passed away in his Tufnell Park apartment on Monday following a short illness, just after realizing that his exhibition at London’s Chambers Gallery was likely his final one. This last showcase featured a painting of a refugee scene, which was provided by Mick Jagger. Born in 1907 to anarchist parents Rudolf Rocker and Milly Witkop, he was raised in an anarchist commune in Stepney. Fermin studied in Berlin during the Weimar Republic and relocated to New York in 1929, where he worked on early cartoons before dedicating himself to etchings and lithographs. After moving to London in 1972, he held 13 solo exhibitions and received critical acclaim. His early life was chronicled in The East End Years (1998). Additionally, a new edition of his father's autobiography is set for release in December.
