Fendi Redesigns Six Salons at Villa Medici in Rome
Fendi has renovated six reception salons at Villa Medici, the French Academy in Rome, including the Grand Salon, under the artistic direction of Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi. The project integrates contemporary design with historical interiors, featuring pieces by Chiara Andreatti (Virgola chairs), Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance (Borghese table), Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec (Belleville chairs by Vitra), and Toan Nguyen (Sandia sofa by Fendi Casa). Existing furnishings by Balthus, geometric lighting by Richard Peduzzi, and 18th-century plaster casts from the Academy's collections remain. In collaboration with Mobilier National, modern and contemporary tapestries by Louise Bourgeois, Sheila Hicks, Aurélie Nemours, Alicia Penalba, Sonia Delaunay, Raoul Ubac, Eduardo Chillida, and Patrick Corillon are displayed alongside historic pieces. Restoration work on the Grand Salon decorations was supervised by chief architect of historic monuments Pierre-Antoine Gatier, and the Four Seasons tapestries were restored by Bobin Tradition workshop.
