Fendi and Louis Vuitton Lead Brand Collaborations at Design Miami 2016
Design Miami 2016 doubled its brand-designer collaborations to eight, up from four in the previous edition. Fendi presented its sixth project at the fair: "The Happy Room," a collection of furniture by Cristina Celestino and Maria Cristina Didero for a traveling VIP room replicable in Fendi stores worldwide. The design features simple volumes, rounded forms, and pastel colors referencing 1950s style and Miami Beach's Art Deco architecture, with nods to Fendi's fur and jewelry-like tables and Roman arches from the EUR district's "Square Colosseum." Other collaborators included Louis Vuitton, Perrier Jouët, Maison Kitsuné, Compac, Audi, Airbnb, and Dean & DeLuca. Perrier Jouët commissioned American artist Andrew Kudless for a 3D-printed installation exploring craft and digital processes. Louis Vuitton's "Objets Nomades" featured designs by Marcel Wanders, the Campana brothers, Patricia Urquiola, and Atelier Oi. Maison Kitsuné, founded by Daft Punk's former manager Gildas Loaëc and architect Masaya Kuroki, created a pop capsule collection using illustrator John Alcorn's fair visuals. Compac worked with Arik Levy on "ICE," an installation using marble and quartz inspired by Arctic ice. Airbnb collaborated with Mexican studio Pedro&Juana on "Sobremesa," an interactive piece about conviviality where visitors add tiles or relax at the table.
