Fendi and Galleria Borghese Launch Caravaggio Research Institute

Fendi and Galleria Borghese have announced a three-year partnership to establish the Caravaggio Research Institute, a specialized center for study, diagnostics, and historical-artistic research on Caravaggio. The institute, conceived by Galleria Borghese director Anna Coliva, aims to become the primary global reference for Caravaggio research. It will include a digital platform serving as the most comprehensive online database for Caravaggio, with bibliographic, documentary, archival, philological, historiographic, and iconographic information, plus digital diagnostic tools. The partnership also includes Fendi's support for exhibitions at the museum. The first exhibition supported will be dedicated to Gian Lorenzo Bernini, opening October 31. The first international exhibition will open November 21 at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, featuring three Caravaggio works: San Girolamo, Giovane con canestro di frutta, and David con la testa di Golia. The institute will establish scientific partnerships with museums, galleries, foundations, churches, and private collections worldwide that house Caravaggio's paintings. Fendi's patronage builds on previous restoration projects including the Trevi Fountain (2015), the Quattro Fontane complex, and other Roman fountains, as well as opening the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana to the public.
