Feminist Art from Italy and Lithuania Converges in Rome Exhibition
The 'Magma' exhibition at the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica in Rome, overseen by curators Benedetta Carpi De Resmini and Laima Kreivytė, explores feminist art from both Italy and Lithuania. This iteration, which showcases a greater number of Italian artists, follows its initial presentation at the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius in spring 2017. Highlighting current women's protests against sexual violence, Tomaso Binga contributed to the dialogue. Lithuanian artist Karla Gruodis reflected on her arrival in 1989 to a society devoid of feminism. Kreivytė pointed out that the exhibition honors women's past and future, linking it to movements like #MeToo and Times Up. Carpi De Resmini mentioned budget limitations affected the Vilnius selection. Eglė Ridikaitė modified her work about her son's birth, while Egle Kuckaite's piece merges Buddhist and Christian themes. The exhibition received backing from director Antonella Fusco.
