Felice Tagliaferri's Tactile Exhibition on a Boat in Venice

exhibition · 2026-04-27

A floating exhibition for visually impaired visitors is moored in Venice aboard the thirty-meter Turkish caique "Lycian Princess." Titled "Vedere oltre la vista" (Seeing Beyond Sight), the installation by blind sculptor Felice Tagliaferri runs from September 7 to October 9, 2022, coinciding with the 79th Venice International Film Festival and the Barcolana regatta in Trieste. The show is part of the "Artista a bordo" project curated by Riccardo Benedini, organized in collaboration with sailor Andrea Stella and his non-profit "Lo Spirito di Stella" and Venetian shipowner Marina Rossi. Tagliaferri, who has been blind since 2006, directs the itinerant art school Chiesa dell'Arte, based on his "tactile-visual" method. On September 17 and 18, he will lead guided tours "by hand and voice." The project will culminate in an "emotional" short film and conclude on October 9 with the Barcolana, during which the "Lycian Princess" will carry Tagliaferri's marble sculpture of the Charter of Rights of Persons with Disabilities, aiming to have world leaders inscribe their initials on it.
