Fedez pays tribute to Italian abstractionist Eugenio Carmi on new single cover
Italian rapper Fedez has released a new single titled 'Bella Storia', whose cover art directly references the geometric abstraction of Eugenio Carmi (Genoa, 1920 – Lugano, 2016), a master of Italian abstract art. The cover features a glossy sphere divided into pink, blue, green, red, and yellow sections, echoing Carmi's geometric canvases. Fedez also debuted a pink and colorful hairstyle matching the cover. Carmi, active from the early 1950s, was a key figure in Italian abstraction, moving from informal painting to rigorous geometric forms by the late 1960s. His oeuvre includes paintings, works on paper, jewelry, iron and tin pieces, multiples, sculptures, and two kinetic works shown at the 33rd Venice Biennale in 1966. He had a close friendship with Umberto Eco, with whom he created three children's fables and the volume 'Stripsody'. Eco described Carmi as an 'eminently urban animal' who translated the external landscape into a pacified personal one. Carmi's works are held in museum collections in Italy, Germany, the UK, and the US. Fedez, who studied at an art high school, stated he has long been fascinated by contemporary art and wanted to introduce Carmi to his audience.
