Federico Tosi: Three-Year Sculptures and Rotten Bullshit at Almanac Inn

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Federico Tosi, born 1988 and trained at Accademia di Brera, creates sculptures that take up to three years to complete, discarding 90% of his work. His practice obsesses over diverse materials—resin, silicone, gold, cement, artificial grass, marble, massage oil, latex, white chocolate—and techniques. Despite a serene childhood, his works evoke dark, sinister atmospheres. He aims for accessibility, rejecting cryptic or citational approaches: 'I like that every person can look and understand things.' His series 'Rotten Bullshit' idealizes the peak of decomposition as hyper-detailed, aestheticized action figures. Tosi sees autolysis as a key to understanding our unity with nature. Until June 10, 2017, he presents three new works at Almanac Inn in Turin, described as a 'gloomy' exhibition. It features a large invented cement fossil mimicking weathered signs and an installation of carved bones, exploring how physical presence deforms boundaries of reality and the Anthropocene. Tosi also created an alternative cover image for Artribune Magazine #37. He listens to film scores, admires places with monkeys, and cites 'Apocalypto' and 'La Dolce Vita' as favorite films.
