Federico Solmi self-quarantines in Bushwick studio after Italy trip

Italian artist Federico Solmi, based in New York, voluntarily entered a 15-day self-quarantine in his Bushwick studio after returning from a trip to Italy on February 26, 2020, amid the emerging coronavirus outbreak. Solmi had traveled to Rome on February 22 to meet a curator, a publisher, and collectors, but his plans were disrupted when news of the virus escalated in northern Italy. He canceled stops in Naples, Florence, Bologna, and Milan, and rebooked an earlier flight from Rome to New York. Upon arrival at JFK, he faced no extra screening but found his assistants and neighbors fearful he might bring the virus. To protect his family, he isolated in his studio with one assistant who had also been in northern Italy. During quarantine, he continues preparing for several museum exhibitions: a solo show at the Tucson Museum of Art (September 3), The Block Museum in Chicago (September 15), Rowan University Gallery in New Jersey (November 7), and Amilie A. Wallace Gallery at SUNY College in New York (April 2, 2021). His projects include paintings, videos, sculptures, drawings, and augmented/virtual reality installations.
