Federico Montagna's Artoday Bridges Digital Curation and Physical Exhibitions
Federico Montagna launched Artoday two years ago during his final university year, creating a digital platform to connect his passion for contemporary art with the online world. The project began on Instagram, where he built a community of nearly 13,000 users—including artists, gallerists, curators, and collectors—by selecting and showcasing artists' work in a virtual gallery. Montagna, who studied art history and criticism at the University of Milan and graduated in Cultural Heritage Sciences in 2013, now lives in Milan. Through Artoday, he has connected with over 200 emerging artists worldwide, collaborating on offline projects. In 2019, the platform served as a media partner for events such as the project space festival Spazi alla Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan and the exhibition The Useless Land at the medieval castle of Lajone. Montagna also co-created The Wall Project with German designer Myriam Khuene Rauner, owner of Galleria Angelo della Pergola 1 in Milan. This exhibition format invites one artist per month from Artoday's portfolio—including Manuel Fois, Alina Vergnano, Alan Borguet, Andrea Carpita, Marco Bongiorni, and Cosimo Casoni—to display a unique, unpublished work on a wall in the gallery, transitioning from Instagram to physical space. The next step is the official launch of Artoday's website, which will compile interviews and studio videos.
