Federica Chiocchetti proposes Italian photography promotion body

Curator Federica Chiocchetti, founder of the photo-literary platform Photocaptionist, proposes the creation of a dedicated agency to promote Italian photography abroad. Drawing on her experience at the Archive of Modern Conflict and the Victoria and Albert Museum, she presented concrete suggestions at the Stati Generali della Fotografia workshop in Rome, structured as a PechaKucha for the MiBACT. Chiocchetti cites successful international models: Spain's La Fabrica (organizer of PhotoEspaña) and Transatlantica, the Fiebre photobook festival run by Blank Paper school, ProHelvetia (which sponsored Swiss photographer Flurina Rothenberger at Jaipur Photo Festival 2017), Arts Council England, and the UK's Art Fund charity. Her proposal includes extending the Art Bonus tax incentive to private funding for new Italian and international photography exhibitions in Italy, exporting existing shows (e.g., 'Sulla Nuova Fotografia Italiana' produced by Fantom at Viasaterna, Milan), and supporting acquisitions of photographic works for donation to public institutions. She also recommends funding young photography curators and conservators in Italian museums, and organizing a biennial traveling exhibition of Italian photography at Italian Cultural Institutes abroad, curated by a diverse committee.
