Federculture launches petition for Italy to ratify Faro Convention

Federculture, the Italian cultural policy association, has initiated a petition on change.org, calling on the Italian Parliament to ratify the Faro Convention, which was signed in 2005 and has been in effect since 2011. Although Italy signed the convention in 2013, its ratification has been delayed in the Senate. The petition, spearheaded by MEP Silvia Costa and others, seeks to gather 500 signatures to present to Senate President Pietro Grasso and Chamber of Deputies President Laura Boldrini. The Faro Convention acknowledges cultural heritage as a human right and a vital resource for sustainable development, complementing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966). This effort coincides with the European Year for Cultural Heritage, which was inaugurated in Milan on December 7-8, 2017.
