FEC and Ferrovie dello Stato launch 2022 calendar featuring Italian sanctuaries
The Fondo Edifici di Culto (FEC) and Ferrovie dello Stato have released the 2022 calendar "In viaggio con l'arte," highlighting twelve Italian sanctuaries. Each month features a sanctuary with a serigraphic silhouette of a significant painting: Giorgio Vasari's Last Supper at Abbazia di Santa Croce in Bosco Marengo, Giotto's Polyptych at Basilica di Santa Croce in Florence, Titian's Annunciation at Basilica di San Domenico Maggiore in Naples, and Caravaggio's Burial of Saint Lucy at Santuario di Santa Lucia al Sepolcro in Syracuse. Art historian Claudio Strinati comments on each painting, while Peter Glidewell provides the history of the sacred buildings. The calendar was presented on December 15 at the church of Sant'Ignazio di Loyola in Rome, where a drone allowed real-time viewing of Fra Pozzo's frescoes. Banners with calendar images will be displayed in waiting rooms and as videos on high-speed trains. Eike Schmidt, director of the Uffizi and president of FEC, noted that religious buildings allow art to be read with spirit and soul. Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi emphasized the importance of sanctuaries with a rabbinic aphorism. The collaboration aims to transform travel into cultural enrichment.
