Fausto Puglisi and Gosha Rubchinskiy Challenge Fashion Norms at Pitti Uomo 2016

At Pitti Uomo 2016 in Florence, designers Fausto Puglisi and Gosha Rubchinskiy presented collections that challenged conventional elegance and style, drawing inspiration from art, street culture, and personal narratives. Rubchinskiy's show featured Eastern European street youth, collaborating with Fila and Robe di Kappa, and was styled by Lotta Volkova, who also works with Demna Gvasalia. The collection referenced Pasolini's writings on male dress, as explored by Maria Luisa Frisa in her book "L'eleganza faziosa." Puglisi's collection was an allegorical fresco blending Greek and Mediterranean art with references to Walt Disney, David LaChapelle, and the Russian group AES+F. Set in a fusion of Gomorra interiors and mythological labyrinths, his designs included coral jewelry, gladiator-inspired jackets, and motifs from de Niro's Casino. The show also featured a women's pre-collection with floral robes and pleated dresses reminiscent of Disney's Hercules vestals. The event highlighted Florence's role as a hub where art and fashion converge, with Jan Fabre's installations in Piazza della Signoria, the Ferragamo Museum's exhibition on art and fashion, and the Gucci Museum's new spaces by Tom Ford.
