Fausto Pirandello Exhibition at Galleria Six in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-26

On the 50th anniversary of Fausto Pirandello's death, Galleria Six in Milan opens a solo exhibition dedicated to the Italian modernist painter. Born in Rome in 1899, Pirandello is the son of Nobel laureate Luigi Pirandello, a fact that has overshadowed his artistic legacy. Despite his works being held in prestigious institutions like Tate and MoMA, he remains undervalued. The exhibition features key works such as "Antonio" (1944), which shows the influence of Chaïm Soutine, and "Natura morta con bucranio" (1944), reflecting material experimentation during wartime. "Bagnanti in verde" (1949) deconstructs human forms with thick, serpentine contours reminiscent of Willem de Kooning. "Donna con gli occhi azzurri" (1950) presents a grotesque female nude, while "Nudo riverso" (1964) anticipates the corporeal disintegration seen in Jenny Saville's work. The finissage on September 25, 2025, at 7 PM will feature a monologue by Luigi Pirandello performed by actor Marcello Mariani. The exhibition is curated by Manuel Carrera, who also organized a parallel show at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Paris ("La peinture et la condition humaine", until October 3).
