Fatboy Slim closes Radio 1's Big Weekend dance day in Sunderland
On Friday, Sunderland's Herrington Country Park kicked off BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend with a dance-centric performance by Fatboy Slim, whose real name is Norman Cook. The 62-year-old DJ delivered a set filled with nostalgic hits, blending tracks such as Praise You and The Rockafeller Skank with samples from Queen's Don't Stop Me Now and Eminem's Slim Shady, alongside an acid house version of The Killers' Mr Brightside. He mentioned to BBC Newsbeat that he modified his set for the live broadcast to eliminate explicit language. The lineup also included Australian producer Fisher, American DJ MK featuring singer Poppy Baskcomb, Sonny Fodera with Clementine Douglas, and bassline DJ Notion. HorsegiirL from Germany had to withdraw due to illness. The festival will proceed on Saturday and Sunday, showcasing headliners Zara Larsson and Olivia Dean.
