Fashioning Masculinities: V&A Show Explores Men's Fashion and Gender Identity

On March 19, 2022, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London will unveil 'Fashioning Masculinities: The Art of Menswear,' curated by Claire Wilcox and Rosalind McKever, with design contributions from JA Projects. Supported by Alessandro Michele of Gucci, the exhibition aims to challenge harmful male stereotypes. Tristram Hunt, the museum's director, emphasizes the institution's rich history in clothing collections. The exhibit is divided into three parts: 'Undressed' focuses on underwear and the body, showcasing classical sculptures and Jean-Paul Gaultier's designs; 'Overdressed' delves into the dynamics of tailoring, featuring portraits and Billy Porter's iconic 2019 Golden Globes suit; while 'Redressed' traces the history of the black suit, presenting works from the Renaissance to modern-day designers like Giorgio Armani and artists such as Harry Styles.
