Fashion Transparency Index 2023: OVS and Gucci Lead, but Industry Progress Stalls
The Fashion Transparency Index 2023, published annually since 2015 by Fashion Revolution, reveals that the global fashion industry has made negligible progress in transparency, with an average score of just 26%, up only 2% from the previous year. The index analyzes 250 of the world's largest fashion brands and retailers with annual revenues over $400 million, ranking them on public disclosure of environmental policies, human rights practices, and sustainability impacts. 94% of major brands still do not disclose the fuel used in production, and 99% do not reveal the number of workers earning a living wage in their supply chains. However, for the first time in seven years, two brands achieved an 80% score: Italian brand OVS topped the list again, followed by Gucci, which improved by 21% and became the first luxury brand to reach the top tier. Luxury brands showed the five largest improvements: Gucci, Armani, Jil Sander, Miu Miu, and Prada. The report is compiled by Fashion Revolution, the largest fashion activism movement operating in 75 countries, aiming to promote corporate accountability and consumer activism.
