Farah Al Qasimi's 'General Behaviour' at Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation

Farah Al Qasimi's exhibition 'General Behaviour' at the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi runs through September 20. The show presents a chronological, four-chapter selection of works by the US-based Emirati artist from 2012 to 2021. Modular corniced walls in pink, blue, yellow, and green, along with vinyl wallpapers depicting commercial interiors and landscapes, serve as backdrops for photographs exploring contrast, harmony, multiculturalism, consumerism, and gender. Key works include 'Sunset Wallpaper' (2012), 'Sandcastles' (2014), 'Ghaith at Home' (2016), 'Orange Soap in Orange Bathroom' (2018), 'Dragon Mart LED Display' (2018), 'Lady Lady' (2019), 'Hall of Mirrors' (2020), and 'Furniture Store' (2020). The exhibition also features the video 'Dream Soup' (2019), documenting the UAE's perfume industry, valued at $914 million in 2021. Al Qasimi's work, often shown in the West, returns to its original context, offering local audiences familiar and validating portrayals of Emirati life.
