Fantastic Women: Surrealist Women Artists at Louisiana Museum

The 'Fantastic Women – Surreal Worlds from Meret Oppenheim to Frida Kahlo' exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark, marks the first significant retrospective focusing on female surrealists. Showcasing the works of 34 artists and more than 260 pieces, it emphasizes the vital contributions of women to the Surrealist movement, as theorized by André Breton. Curator Kirsten Degel points out that no other avant-garde movement featured women so prominently. The exhibition explores the involvement of women surrealists from the early 1930s, including their participation in collaborative activities like the 'exquisite corpse' games.
