Fango Artista: mud from Emilia-Romagna flood sold in Manzoni-style cans

artist · 2026-04-26

Stefano Silvestroni and Marina Bergamaschi, owners of a plant nursery in Forlì, have created "Fango Artista" — 100 cans of mud collected from their flood-damaged property, packaged in the style of Piero Manzoni's "Merda d'artista." The May 2023 Emilia-Romagna flood destroyed their nursery and 58 of their 120 art-themed fabric ducks. The remaining two cans are intended for Giorgia Meloni and Ursula von der Leyen as ironic thanks for their post-flood visit. The couple is known for bringing fabric ducks dressed as art figures (Philippe Daverio, Marina Abramović, Keith Haring, etc.) to openings and fairs.
