Giovanni Maria Falconetto, born in 1468 in the Beverara district of Verona, was the son of the painter Jacopo. He initially started his artistic career in his father's studio but developed a preference for themes from antiquity rather than religious subjects. In 1497, he completed frescoes in the Chapel of San Biagio located in the Church of Santi Nazaro e Celso in Verona. The following year, he married Elena, and together they had ten children. Falconetto's travels to Rome, Umbria, and Naples allowed him to study ancient ruins, sketching every structure he found. His renowned work, the Sala dello Zodiaco in Palazzo d'Arco, Mantua, was commissioned by Luigi Gonzaga and showcases zodiac imagery surrounded by historical figures, utilizing vibrant colors and intricate details.
