Fake Documenta 15 invitations circulate, prompting official warning from organizers

Documenta's organizers have alerted the art world to fraudulent participation invitations for the 2022 edition. Over 30 artists and professionals received these deceptive emails in recent days, falsely offering inclusion in the quinquennial exhibition. The fake communications have caused confusion, leading Documenta to advise recipients to verify any invitations directly. The fifteenth iteration of Documenta is set for Kassel, Germany, in 2022, curated by the Indonesian collective ruangrupa. In June, ruangrupa disclosed additional details about the upcoming show, including participating collectives and organizations. The exhibition will be structured around the agricultural concept of 'lumbung' (rice barn), emphasizing sustainable resource management and values of solidarity and collectivity. According to ruangrupa, these principles are particularly relevant under current conditions. A notice on Documenta's website confirms the circulation of unauthorized invitations.
