Fake artist list for Quadriennale di Roma stirs controversy

exhibition · 2026-04-26

A misleading list claiming to show 40 artists invited to the 18th Quadriennale di Roma has caused quite a stir. This event, titled 'Fantastica,' is set to run from October 2025 to February 2026 at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni and will be curated by a team that includes Luca Massimo Barbero and Francesco Bonami, among others. The actual list of participating artists won’t be revealed until a press conference on June 25. The false names were sent from a fake email address, 'palaexpoquadriennale.' President Andrea Lombardinilo, who succeeded the late Luca Beatrice, voiced his frustration. The exhibition will focus on living Italian artists from the last 25 years.
