Fade Out Label: Andrea Bonfini’s Upcycled Denim Brand in Berlin
Andrea Bonfini founded Fade Out Label in 2015 as a Berlin-based fashion brand that rejects seasonality, uses artisanal production, and sources reclaimed materials to be 100% vegan and upcycling. Bonfini, who studied at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera under Luciano Fabro and worked at Miss Sixty, ENERGIE, and Diesel, started the brand by making denim theater costumes for friends. The brand won a designer of the year award from Who’s Next. Bonfini’s approach to sustainability was recognized by Orsola De Castro of Fashion Revolution and Marina Spatafora, leading to a fully vegan line. He presented an installation at Positions Berlin art fair, featuring a denim overall split into four pieces hung like meat, with a mirror reading 'YOU ARE WHAT YOU WEAR,' critiquing meat consumption and climate crisis industries. His latest collection debuted at Denim Première Vision in Milan in November, using deadstock jacquard fabrics. Bonfini works from his studio in Lichtenberg, Berlin, and uses traditional Abruzzese blankets in new pieces.
