Facha Architekti inserts self-contained home inside a barn

Facha Architekti, a firm based in Prague, has finalized 'Box in a Barn,' a self-sufficient residence integrated within an old agricultural barn in the Czech Republic. This design serves as a retreat for a client whose family operates the nearby farm, leaving the original structure untouched. The new addition consists of a straightforward timber box wrapped in black asphalt, slightly raised above the barn's original floor. The interior features predominately birch plywood, complemented by a single built-in unit of black-dyed MDF that combines kitchen, bathroom, and storage spaces. With underfloor heating and insulation, the space is suitable for year-round living, while the barn itself acts as a passive climate regulator.
