Facce da Biennale: 100 photos of Biennale audiences at FMAV Modena

The exhibition 'Facce da Biennale' at FMAV Modena presents over 100 photographs from the Cameraphoto archive, capturing visitors to the Venice Biennale between 1948 and 1986. Curated by Chiara dall’Olio, the show offers an unusual perspective focused on the audience rather than the art. Among the recognizable figures are Alberto Sordi, Palma Bucarelli, Nino Barbantini, Aldo Moro, Pietro Ingrao, Tina Anselmi, President Luigi Einaudi, and a cardinal visiting the Soviet pavilion during the Cold War. The photos also document the 1964 Golden Lion awarded to Robert Rauschenberg and protests of the 1970s. The archive, founded in 1946 by Dino Jarach, includes over 10,000 negatives acquired by Fondazione di Modena since 2005. A first presentation was held in 2006 at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero. The exhibition also features a large-format print of a crate labeled 'Contenente opere di…' in Piazza San Marco, prompting viewers to recall artists' names. Notable installations include Menashe Kadishman's 1970s piece with live sheep, some painted blue.
