Fabrizio Spucches Turns Milan Newsstand into Souvenir Shop
Artist and photographer Fabrizio Spucches has transformed Edicola Civic in Piazza Ventiquattro Maggio, Milan, into a temporary souvenir shop running until December 24. The project, titled Souvenir, originated in September when a replica of the Madonnina statue was submerged in the Darsena waters to protest climate change. Despite controversy with Monsignor Gianantonio Borgonovo over the use of the Madonnina image, the project has evolved into a physical store. It features ten limited-edition aquariums, open-edition sculptures, framed photographs, a calendar, and magnets, all produced in collaboration with Pop House Gallery. A free book about Souvenir, published by NFC Edizioni with an introduction by Nicolas Ballario, is available at the shop. The book is the twelfth volume in the Luminos Phenomena series, dedicated to artists' photographic work, and is "bathed in gold" like the Madonnina, containing over fifty limited-edition photographs.
