Fabrizio Plessi's 'L'Età dell'Oro' Installation at Museo Correr, Venice
Twenty years after his Waterfire installation in Piazza San Marco, Fabrizio Plessi (born 1940 in Reggio Emilia) returns to Venice with a new light installation titled L'Età dell'Oro (The Golden Age), created for the windows of the Museo Correr. The work features flowing golden light that dissolves the words 'Pax Tibi' from the Gospel held by the Lion of St. Mark, merging historical references with digital technology. Plessi conceived the piece as a response to the global pandemic and a tribute to Venice, where he moved at age 14. The installation is part of a retrospective at Ca' Pesaro, whose opening has been delayed. The acoustic soundtrack was composed by Michael Nyman. Each window of the Museo Correr required individual recalibration of LEDs to fit different frame dimensions. Plessi describes himself as a 'solitary navigator' and emphasizes working on the future while coexisting with the past.
