Fabrizio Plessi's 'Fenix DNA' video installation at La Fenice

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Fabrizio Plessi's video installation 'Fenix DNA' premieres at Teatro La Fenice in Venice from July 26 to August 6, 2017. The work juxtaposes water and fire, elemental forces symbolizing destruction and rebirth, echoing the theater's own history after the 1996 fire. The installation features 200 plaster casts of capitals, putto heads, masks, and grotesques by Guarino Lodato, evoking the theater's lost interior. Plessi's light and visual effects immerse the space in waves of water and tongues of fire. A musical score by Giovanni Sparano, performed by Pourquoi-Pas Ensemble conducted by Alvise Zambon with mezzo-soprano Francesca Gerbasi, accompanies the experience. The project is promoted by Generali Italia through its Valore Cultura program and produced by Fondazione Teatro La Fenice. Plessi's connection to Venice dates back to his participation in the 2011 Biennale.
