Fabrizio Cotognini's 'Is a Question of Time' at Potenza's Archaeological Museum

At the Museo Archeologico Provinciale di Potenza, Fabrizio Cotognini (Macerata, 1983) presents 'Is a Question of Time', a solo exhibition featuring works from 2012 to 2016. Curated by Lorenzo Benedetti and organized by Visioni Future in collaboration with Fondazione Morra Greco, the show blends archaeological traces with contemporary elements, using materials like corals, quartz, Japanese paper, gramophones, magic lanterns, and diving helmets. Works include 'Tentativo di creare una eco mentale' (2012), 'Navi fantastiche' (2014), and 'Ittiomorfi' (2014) such as 'Vescovo di mare' and 'Monaco di mare'. A notable installation is 'Anamorfosi' (2016), featuring a late 19th-century gramophone that projects Aleppo, Syria. 'Desantnik – USV 50' (2014), previously in 'Per aquam' at the Museo Archeologico Provinciale di Salerno, pairs a Soviet diving helmet from the 1920s with a 5th-4th century BC terracotta acroterion from Monte Torretta di Pietragalla. 'Et in arcadia ego' (2016) combines a coral and a magic lantern from Reynolds & Branson Leeds (founded 1816) to project an inverted image of a statuette from the Tempietto e dea di Garaguso (480-470 BC). The exhibition creates an archaic yet futuristic world, inviting viewers into an immersive, intellectual exploration.
